At Dhoni Mighili guests don't have to waver between an over-water villa or a beachfront one - they can have both. The boutique resort has six dhonis (Maldivian sailboats) that are partnered with six thatched-roof beach bungalows, four of which come with their own freshwater pool.

The bow of the dhoni is decked out with comfy daybeds while the sun shines, and at night the Thakuru or Maldivian butler transforms the deck into a personal restaurant.

Don't want to be restricted by time? Stop in at the 24-hour bar at 3 am or dine on the beach at 4 am. It's all possible with Dhoni Mighili's dine 'anywhere, anytime' policy.

The spa is one place where the clock actually does get watched. With the policy of having guests book time rather than treatments, it may be all too easy to fall asleep in the spa's Undholige or traditional Maldivian resting shelter.
