This new arrival in the archipelago, the brainchild of Bangkok-based
Bill Heineke, and run with charismatic élan by Christopher
Stafford, is pure delight.
Villas are strung beside the sand and out on a pontoon, as is the
spa. Getting a massage while watching the marine life through a
pane of glass set in the floor beneath the treatment table is a
bit like dry snorkelling!
The cellar, even by five-star standards, would cause many self-respecting
sommeliers elsewhere in the world to blanch, or perhaps turn green
with envy, and the kitchens are uniformly superb.
Guests are encouraged to devise their own cocktails should the
fancy take them - the Long Atoll Iced Tea and Slow Comfortable Scuba
have become the stuff of legend. One final note - the spinner dolphins
might be auditioning for Cirque de Soleil: catch them on a cruise
at dusk, the quintessential Maldivian sundowner. |
